Fighting for Hope

"Kali “Ko” Mequinonag Reis, a Seaconke Wampanoag boxer, addresses the factors that drive her as a fighter and as an advocate for others. Ko comes from a unique perspective, as she can not simply not be defined as Indigenous, but as an Indigenous Two Spirit and an Indigenous Mixed Two Spirit. Rising from feelings of depression and ideas of suicide, she feels it be important to inspire others to live by shedding light on this issues that often are viewed as “taboo,” amongst Indigenous communities. Ko wants everyone to know that they matter and that they are alive for a “purpose,” and to live in “confidence.”—https://www.nativehope.org/
